Job summary

CNWL NHS FT have an exciting opportunity for a Locum Appointment within the General Adult Psychiatry in the community- HUB based at Westcroft Health Centre- Milton Keynes.

The LAS will work as a junior grade doctor under the supervision of the Consultant Psychiatrist of the team. However, the doctor is expected to do independent assessments and then discuss the cases with the Consultant Psychiatrist and other senior team members.

Workplace-based learning opportunities are provided in different clinical settings and adhere to the Royal College of Psychiatrist and Royal College of General Practitioner Post Graduate Training Curriculum.

Main duties of the job

Maintain the highest standards of care and service, taking responsibility not only for the care you personally provide, but also for your wider contribution to team and the NHS as a whole.

This is a multi-disciplinary community mental health team based at Westcroft Health Centre.

The function of the team is to provide comprehensive assessment and treatment of patients presenting with severe and enduring mental health difficulties.

The Community Mental Health Hub is a new development in the continuing modernisation of the Mental Health Service in Milton Keynes. The Hubs remit is to provide care for those patients who need longer term care. It caters for all diagnostic categories and is a needs-led service.

The Hub operates within a recovery framework and provides longerterm interventions and support for people with enduring mental health problems, their families and carers. The team actively engage with carers, incorporate annual physical health checks into care planning and provide focused and person-centred care, enabling individuals to remain supported within the community setting.

The pathways within the Hub are:

  • The Assertive Outreach Team
  • The Healthy Ageing Team
  • The Psychosocial Pathway
  • The Therapy Pathway
  • The Diagnosis and Medication Management Pat

The LAS will gain experience in interviewing, assessing and treating patients suffering from a wide range of functional adult illnesses including patients presenting with substance abuse. They will have the opportunity to learn and implement risk assessment management plans.
