Job summary

We are look for a Band 8a Clinical Lead Social Worker to work across CNWL's perinatal services. CNWL provides a wide range of perinatal services including community, inpatient, and maternal mental health services as part of the NHS perinatal mental health Long term Plan.

The perinatal services work in an integrated way with maternity, community and primary care services. It is an exciting time to join CNWL's perinatal team while the trust continues to grow and develop their perinatal services through securing investment. This ensures that care provided is safe, evidence-based and high quality.

This is an opportunity to join a highly valued specialist perinatal social work team. The ideal candidates should have significant post registration experience of working in adult mental health settings and/or perinatal mental health. You should have a proven and genuine interest in working with pregnant & postnatal women experiencing mental ill health from a culturally diverse population. Promoting the emotional and physical well-being and development of the mother and infant are central to the work of all professionals within high quality perinatal mental health services.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as part of the CNWL's Perinatal Services Senior Management Team providing a strategic vision for social care provision and specialist advice, direction and guidance on all aspects of social care relating to the perinatal client group while recommending possible best courses of action.
  • To provide professional leadership for all qualified Social workers within the Perinatal Service which includes in-patient, out-reach, community and parenting assessment teams, providing highly skilled advice and support in assessment, intervention and recommendations.
  • To maintain systems for effective professional supervision and support for social care staff and other staff with social care specific aspect of care across the Perinatal Service. This will include systems for effective recruitment and retention, professional knowledge and skills framework review and the identification of continued professional development and training needs.
  • To work with Service and Team managers to promote integrated care and support and flexibility of services ensuring it is responsive to the needs and priorities of people who use perinatal mental health services.
  • To develop and maintain high quality, effective social care in line with service / trust short and long term plans.

To provide a strategic vision for social care provision in Perinatal Services in conjunction with the head of social care and service lead, providing highly specialist advice, direction and guidance on all aspects of social care and recommending best course of action. To consolidate information from supervision and appraisal frameworks to monitor the competence levels of social workers staff within perinatal Services with regards to guidance and policy documents including aids & adaptations/medical devices To monitor and report on a monthly basis social work manpower activity in relation to starters & leavers; staff who move within the organisation; posts lost, created and converted; staff on secondment/extended periods of leave; vacancies and use of locums To ensure timely and effective response and engagement to Trust-wide and national agendas. To provide prompt advice and guidance to Social work staff (and managers) where complex and sensitive clinical or social work provision issues are identified. To oversee the development and maintenance of Social care perinatal care pathways for each of the service lines (in-patient, out-reach, community and parenting assessment) which ensure consistent high-quality social work provision. To be responsible for the standard of Social care needs assessment of people who access the Perinatal Services. To keep abreast of all developments in social care evidence based clinical practice, especially those relating to the perinatal client group, ensuring new developments are implemented where appropriate. To explore creatively in the adaptation of social care needs assessments and interventions for the best use in perinatal mental health settings, with consideration of the infant. To ensure the effectiveness of interventions are evaluated.
