Job summary
This is a newly created full time post, offering varied and interesting work for an experienced clinical psychologist to join two well established and dynamic teams - the Home Treatment Team and Psychiatric Liaison Team. The post holder will divide their time between both teams and will work closely with the Operational Manager, Consultant Psychiatrists and other senior team members, providing a highly specialist clinical or counselling psychology service to service users of both teams. They will receive supervision from the LeadAcuteConsultant Clinical Psychologist, and have links to both the acute and community psychology teams.

Main duties of the job
They will work across a range of settings - mental health services, the acute medical hospital wards and accident and emergency. The post holder will provide consultation, co-working, teaching, training, supervision and research as well as developing specific training to enhance the systematic provision of psychological interventions offered to service users by all members of the team within a 'stepped-care' framework.
The post holder will undertake assessment, psychological interventions and family interventions for the most complex presentations and to contribute to safe therapeutic discharge plans in order to enhance recovery and prevent relapse.

Hillingdon mental health services are committed to providing trauma informed interventions across their services and the post holder will receive training and lead on implementing a trauma informed approach with the Home Treatment Team and Psychiatric Liaison. - To provide specialist psychological assessments of service users referred to the teams based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with service users, service users family members and others involved in the service users care. Ensuring all service users referred to the teams have equitable access to the range of psychological interventions applicable to the service based on presenting need.
- To formulate and implement focused plans for the formal psychological treatment and / or management of a service users mental health challenges, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the service users challenges, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
- To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
- To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning socio-economic, historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
- To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of service users.
- To provide highly specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to service users formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan. To support the team in providing care to service users with highly complex presentations in acute crisis.
- To contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all service users, across all settings and agencies serving the service user group.
