Job summary

We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic B7 Perinatal Social Worker to work in ourPerinatal Mental Healthteam in Milton Keynes. The team provide specialist care for women (and their babies) with moderate to severe mental illness, this includes offering pre-conceptual counselling alongside working with women during their pregnancy and up to 2 years postpartum where there is a perinatal need. This is an energetic, creative and welcoming team which aims to offer and inspire excellence in community perinatal mental health care.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, energetic and passionate about delivering high quality patient-centred care to patients. They should have experience of team working, possess sound organisation skills and be able to work on their own initiative. Previous mental health experience is essential alongside experience of formal child protection processes and interagency working. Effective communication and empathic skills are essential.

Following digital enhancement during the initial Covid-19 pandemic we are also now able to offer video assessment and consultation in addition to face to face appointments for assessment, treatment and group interventions.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant as part of a multi-disciplinary team will deliver care to women in a range of community settings including the woman's home; children's centre's; GP surgeries, maternity wards and by the use of virtual technology. The ability to work flexibly in multidisciplinary teams and in a range of settings is therefore essential. All roles within the team involve close liaison with the wider MDT such as Midwives; Health Visitors; Safeguarding and Children's Centre's.

As a Mental Health Social Worker you must have experience of working in mental health services at secondary care level holding a caseload of service users who present with complex presentations who may also be in crisis and who express suicidality or of working in a mental health inpatient setting. Experience of working in the Perinatal Mental Health field is desirable with experience of formal child protection procedures and inter-agency work with families. The team also leads on a multi-agency training programme which is delivered in a training centre on a monthly basis.

The team is part of the wider Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) specialist perinatal mental health provision and there will be opportunities for networking with perinatal Social Workers across BLMK, the East of England Region and within CNWL.

Both regionally and locally we are committed to further training all disciplines within the team there will be provision for training in line with a regional training programme
