Job summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly skilled psychologist to join the Mental Health Hospital Liaison Team in Milton Keynes. Applicants will preferably have experience of working in both physical and mental health services, and be confident in their abilities to develop relationships and liaise effectively with senior staff in one Trust (Milton Keynes University Hospital) whilst being employed by another (CNWL). The role is varied and exciting, including service development, teaching, training and consultancy, as well as direct clinical work and supervision. There are a number of Quality Improvement projects ongoing within the team, and the option to develop projects into publications, some in conjunction with MKUH colleagues. We are currently involved in a national RCT ('FReSHSTART') for patients who frequently attend A & E following an episode of deliberate self-harm and the postholder would be expected to be involved in this project.

Main duties of the job

The team is a well-functioning, psychologically minded group of individuals who strive to offer the best support for patients who present to A&E in mental health crisis; or who are on the wards in the hospital and whose care or discharge is complicated by mental health problems. The team hosts a number of nursing and paramedic students and takes doctoral trainees from the University of Oxford. As the name suggests there is a significant requirement for close liaison and working relationships with other parts of the mental health service, primary care, social care and the third sector to name a few. A further element to the role is that the post holder will support the other Consultant and Principal Psychologists within Milton Keynes in the effective delivery of high-quality psychological care delivery in all areas.

CNWL are committed to progressing and supporting their staff with career development and training, and ensuring staff health and wellbeing, and job satisfaction. The postholder will receive regular supervision from the Professional Lead in Psychology.

This is a full-time post but we are open to discussing/negotiating hours.
