Job summary

The National Problem Gambling Clinic is a highly specialist NHS service for problem gamblers based in London.

At a time of unprecedented development and growth, we are looking for an experienced registered Mental Health Nurse to join our evolving multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will have the opportunity to develop a varied role which will include providing motivational interventions and case management to adults and young people. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a unique branch of mental health.

The successful candidate will be an energetic and enthusiastic nurse with a proven track record of delivering high quality services in either the NHS, social care or the private sector. They will work collaboratively with psychology colleagues to provide treatment to problem gamblers including those with significant mental health co-morbidities. Previous training and experience in delivering Motivational Interviewing interventions is an essential requirement. CBT training and experience is highly desirable.

There may be some expectation of evening work, to be discussed with the successful applicant.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To work collaboratively as a member of the multidisciplinary team in the management and treatment provision of the specialist service to adults and young people with gambling disorder. To provide interventions including motivational interviewing, care planning, case management, individual intervention, health assessments and education
  • To assess continuously the psychological, emotional, social and rehabilitative needs of own clients/patients, taking into account the needs of family, local community and developing systematic plans for care and evaluation of treatment plans
  • To be able to assess and case manage clients with co-morbid mental health diagnoses and to liaise or refer on to relevant services as required
  • To be able to assess clients who use drugs, in particular assessing injection sites and be conversant with the precepts of harm minimisation
  • To provide case management and direct clinical care to a defined number of complex clients including clients dual diagnosed with mental health, substance misuse or physical health issues, concurrent with gambling disorder, as agreed with the Service Manager. This includes assessment, care planning and providing specialist nursing care.

  • To assist with Infection Control and Hand Hygiene audits as required
  • To attend mandatory yearly updates on CPR and Anaphylaxis training
