Job summary

This an exciting opportunity to continue developing your expert Occupational Therapy clinic skills in the field of community neuro-rehabilitation and to lead the Occupational Therapy service provision within a well established community neuro rehabilitation team in Ealing Borough.

We will support the post holder to lead and further develop our vocational rehabilitation pathway for patients with neurological conditions, and develop spasticity management skills and postural management pathways in conjunction with the ACP physiotherapist in the service.

The post holder will hold a clinical caseload of complex patients and support the occupational therapists in the team to develop their skills and competencies in neurological rehabilitation.

The post holder will lead in the service's participation in national audits and work with the Service Lead to evaluate the Occupational therapy service provision.

This opportunity has arisen through secondment of the existing post-holder until April 2024.

Main duties of the job

This post holder will lead the Occupational therapy provision within the Enable team, and act as appoint of expertise in community neuro rehab and vocational rehab for other Occupational Therapists within Ealing Community Partners. The post holder will provide expert Occupational Therapy input to patients, and triaging expertise for patients who are referred to the Enable team. This includes holistic assessments of patients and provision of evidence based neurological rehabilitation, long term management and vocational rehabilitation therapy to patients in both individual and group formats. This post holder provides clinical leadership and supports development of the Occupational therapy staff, assistants and students in the team. This post holder will work with the Occupational Therapists, physiotherapy, Speech therapy and clinical psychology leads and the service manager to ensure the efficacy of the team in working towards our service aims. The post holder will continue to develop the vocational rehab pathway and evaluate the efficacy of this and other pathways within the service.

The post holder will need to apply enhanced knowledge of neurological rehab and be confident when representing the service and at multiple forums.

Job responsibilities

  • To be responsible for a clinical caseload working within the multi-disciplinary team. When completing direct clinical work, to work with complex cases, acting as a role model for excellence in care provision, using advanced clinical judgement and decision making.
  • To act as a point of expertise in community occupational therapy for clinical Occupational therapists within Ealing Community Partners especially neuro rehabilitation, providing clinical support to Senior Occupational Therapists as necessary.
  • To carry out cross professional assessments for patients with complex needs and discuss outcomes with multidisciplinary team members.
  • To develop and ensure delivery of, the Ealing Vocational rehabilitation pathway for patients with neurological impairment and work with other colleague and teams to ensure consistent approach across Ealing Community partners, establishing pathways for further services across North West London.
  • To lead on the management of patients with complex progressive neurological conditions including spasticity management, postural and seating management, working across professional boundaries to ensure holistic care and effective Multi-disciplinary working for effective anticipatory care.
  • To keep accurate up-to-date records on patient care and equipment provision, which comply with quality standards of Trust/Professional/Service policies, meet legal requirements and that can be shared with colleagues and carers when appropriate.
  • To provide written and/or verbal reports to referrers and other agencies involved in clients care and participate in clinical meetings as necessary.
  • To monitor Occupational Therapy caseloads in the service, recording statistics and prioritising referrals as required.
