HMPYOI Feltham Speech and Language Therapy department is a passionate and motivated team who strive to provide services of high quality to the diverse population.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, flexible and innovative therapist to work with young people aged 14 - 21 years.
The successful candidate/s will be supported by in-house training/ supervision and shadowing to develop their knowledge, skills and experience in working with young people.

Main duties of the job
We have a 1 WTE (37.5 hours) a week permanent sessions available in HMPYOI Feltham SALT.
This post involves:-
- To develop skills in the assessment, diagnosis and management of a designated specialist caseload of young people with communication issues.
- To contribute to the Education Health and Care planning process. This will include assessment of the young people's need as well as reviewing recommendations.
- To develop the ability to cater for young people in the criminal justice system,
- To develop knowledge in dysphagia underpinned by current evidence-based practice.
- To demonstrate a working knowledge of the National curriculum and SEN processes in the context of speech and language therapy.
- To reflect on practice with peers and identify strengths and needs.
- To show evidence of sound clinical judgement, evidence-based practice and outcome measures.

- To work towards managinga complex and specialist caseload independently demonstrating evidence of sound clinical judgement and outcome measurement with access to support and supervision as necessary.
- To develop specialist knowledge in clinical specialism underpinned by current evidence-based practice.
- To reflect on practice with peers and identify strengths and needs.
- To develop evidence of specialist clinical judgement, evidence-based practice and outcome measures.
- To participate in the appropriate specialism groups.
- To provide support and supervision for junior team members as directed by Team Leader.
- To write appropriate reports and case notes, reflecting specialist knowledge.
- To communicate verbally and in writing with parent/ carer/ client assessment findings, diagnosis and therapy intervention plan reflecting specialist knowledge. This may include breaking bad news in a sensitive manner.
- To negotiate with parents/clients/other professionals around case management and to recognise potential breakdown and conflict when it occurs and take steps to resolve.
- To deal with initial complaints sensitively, avoiding escalation where possible and know when and how to seek support.
- To attend and contribute to relevant Speech and Language Therapy Team meetings and participate in team projects.

- Recognised degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
- Health and Care Professions Council registration.
- Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Clear evidence of work-based learning to demonstrate specialist clinical skills.
- Good IT skills and experience of using computer based communication programmes
Desirable
- Post-qualifying education in areas relevant to the post including learning disabilities, autism spectrum conditions, and mental health in forensic settings.
- Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Network(s).
