Job summary

CNWL MK (Central and North West London Foundation Trust - Milton Keynes) IAPT service is seeking to recruit Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners to undertake their placement within the service.

The service wishes to recruit enthusiastic, motivated and experienced individuals toTRAINto provide Low Intensity interventions within a CBT framework. This individual would train to deliver on a range of CBT informed low intensity interventions including monitoring of client outcomes and taking a positive role in the development of the MK IAPT service and programme treatments that it provides.

As a trainee PWP you will have a mix of service and university days. You will be employed within the MK Talking Therapies IAPT service and required to attend our partner University of Reading to undertake and achieve the Postgraduate/Graduate Certificate in Evidence based Psychological Treatments (IAPT Pathway) as part of this role. We welcome applicants who are non-graduates with experience of mental healthcare as the University offers two routes for the programme:

Graduate route (Level 6)

Applicants that may not hold an honours degree must have proven successful study at Level 5; or successful part completion of an Honours degree (Level 6)

Postgraduate route (Level 7)

Honours degree graded at 2:2 or above

Main duties of the job

The post will be academically challenging and located in a fast-paced work environment; the successful individual will be target driven and have significant mental healthcare experience. This person will also help us deliver and maintain our successful trajectory on our local and national KPIs.

Important Applicant Information:Please be aware that you must have transportation to University of Reading up to 3 days per week and on an ADHOC basis for teaching days, sitting exams and role-play. Applicants will be required to maintain 100% attendance of University days plus completion of clinical hours within the service when not at University. Applicants will need to review the Person Specification before applying for this post. As a minimum, applicants must evidence in their application of their ability to complete the Reading University course and other areas of the person specification. This will be reviewed as part of the interview process.

Job description

Job responsibilities

This is a trainee role within the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Programme in Milton Keynes (MK IAPT). The post-holder will work within the IAPT service providing high volume low intensity interventions whilst undertaking a programme of training for this role.The training post will equip the post holder to provide a range of low intensity in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based self- management interventions to clients with mild to moderate anxiety and depression.

CLINICAL

  • Accept referrals via agreed MK IAPT pathways within the service.
  • Assess and support people with a common mental health problem in the self management of their recovery.
  • Undertakes a patient-centered telephone assessment which identifies areas where the person wishes to see change and or recovery and makes an accurate assessment of risk to self and others.
  • Assists in decision making on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the departments referral protocols, signpost patients onto the relevant service or back to the referring service, GP or steps-up the patients treatment to high intensity psychological therapy (step 3).
  • Provide a range of information and support for evidence based high-volume low-intensity psychological treatments. This may include guided self-help computerised CBT, information about pharmacological treatments. This work may be face to face, telephone or via other media.
  • Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary.
  • Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the overall number of client contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.
  • Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate.
  • Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service.
  • Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols and use these records and clinical outcome data in clinical decision making.
  • Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.
  • Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process
  • Operate at all times from an inclusive values base which promotes recovery and recognises and respects diversity.
  • Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service
  • Assess clients for suitability for CBT. Where the problems appear to be too complex or severe to be appropriate for a trainee therapists to refer to manager/supervisor for advice on how to manage the case.
