Job summary
An exciting opportunity to work in an Early Intervention Service for the treatment of those with a first episode psychosis. The team are dedicated in using evidenced based interventions, specifically to treat and support patients with a FEP and their families. The applicant will work with and be supported by an enthusiastic multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
The role involes assessing new and current patients for medical reviews within an outpatient clinic. There will be opportunity to carry out home visits, close working with care coordinators and risk management. There will be active involvement in daily MDT meetings to disuss at risk patients and be part of formulating management plans. There will be weekly supervision with a consultant psychiatrist though there will also be clinical supervision by a higher trainee.
About us
The Early Intervention Service (EIS) within the London Boroughs of Harrow and Hillingdon works within the Community Mental Health services in Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL). It is a service that provides early detection, assessment and intervention for 14-35 year olds who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis. Its aim is to provide world class, evidence based treatments in order to reduce the impact of the disorder for the individual and their families. The service is based on an assertive outreach model with the interventions being delivered alongside individuals in the community. The EIS will work closely with many services and agencies including Primary Care, Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT), Children & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), Inpatient wards, Schools, Colleges and Universities to encourage early referral to ensure an early assessment of needs by the team.
The prospective applicant can expect a high level of team working, with a view to manage patients in an empathetic and proactive manner. We use evidence based interventions to support both our patients and their families allowing for a holistic approach to our care and treatment. There are monthly business meetings to overview governance issues, discussion of serious incidents as a learning excercise and weekly supervision by the consultant psychitrist.

- The ongoing assessment and management of patients, including contributing to multidisciplinary reviews by presenting updated clinical information on patients and documenting the multidisciplinary discussion.
- The trainee will not hold a dedicated patient caseload. Outpatient appointments will be offered on a needs basis as per requests from care coordinators.
- The trainee will also be able to carry out domiciliary visits with a care coordinator.
- Attendance at the weekly multidisciplinary team meeting
- Participation in CPA meetings and relevant documentation.
- Liaison with other professionals within and external to the service, voluntary agencies and carers.
- The preparation of psychiatric reports and clinical referrals to mental health and physical health services.
- Verbal or written communication and liaison with GPs.
- To arrange cross cover with medical colleagues within the EIS team.
- Included in the on-call rota (1 in 11 at the Riverside Centre / Hillingdon Hospital). This includes both daytime rota as well as evening and night time rota.
