Job summary

Lavender Walk is a Tier 4 Adolescent Unit which provides acute inpatient and intensive day treatment for young people (aged 13-18) with a range of with complex mental health needs and risks that cannot be managed in the community. The unit is based at South Kensington Mental Health Centre alongside the established Eating Disorder Inpatient and Outpatient Service.

Main duties of the job

Lavender Walk opened in November 2018 and continues to be developing as a service. We are in the process of applying to QNIC accreditation and as a team are highly invested in continually assessing and improving the quality of care being provided for our young people. The role of staff nurses is essential in the implementation and monitoring of care.

Critical Activities

Nursing Care
  • To take responsibility for and manage the overall care of the unit within a span of duty and act as nurse in charge, delegating as appropriate and ensuring completion of all nursing duties.
  • To be able to recognise escalation in behaviour or shift in ward dynamics and proactively address this with staff or young people.
  • To be able to ensure that all observations are allocated and carried out appropriately and effectively.
  • To be able to identify the need for increased/decreased observations and be able to share concerns/rationale with others.
