Job summary

CNWL is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Specialty Doctor who is innovative and most essentially, able to work collaboratively with the team. This full time position would be excellent for someone wanting to broaden their experience of acute psychiatry and develop their clinical skills in a supportive and challenging environment. The team is well established with good support from senior clinical and managerial colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The post will be on Pine ward which is a 20 bedded male ward. The postholder will provide overall clinical leadership for the ward's multidisciplinary team as well as direct clinical assessments and consultations. The post holder will be supervised and supported by the ward Consultant Psychiatrist.

The post holder will have a central role in providing medical input within the well-established acute inpatient ward. He or she will work closely with the other members of the multidisciplinary team, in order to ensure that patients are provided with the highest standards of care. You will be supervised and supported by the Consultant Psychiatrist for the ward.

The post holder will be expected to ensure that any leave taken is covered by members of the clinical teams within which you work. The directorate is keen ensure flexible working and you may be asked to undertake additional duties to maintain high quality patient care.

The Brent Adult inpatient service are located at Park Royal Centre for Mental Health. The service provides a range of comprehensive inpatient services including the Home treatment team. The inpatient service consists of three adult wards - Shore (18 beds - mixed gender), Pine 20 beds - (male only) and Pond (18 beds - female only). There is also a male only Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (Caspian ward - 13 beds). The Park Royal Site also has a 17 bed male only low secure forensic ward (Tasman), a 6 bed male only forensic rehabilitation ward (Java House) and the regional Mother and Baby unit (Coombe Wood).

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assessment (including assessment of risk), treatment and management of adults with mental health problems (functional and organic).
  2. Treatment, using a sound knowledge of the evidence for pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, in accordance with NICE and relevant guidance.
  3. Formulating psychiatric opinions about a bio-psycho-social care plan.
  4. Full participation in the multidisciplinary team providing care on the ward.
  5. Review and monitoring patients to ensure discharges are facilitated to maintain patient flow.
  6. Contribution to care quality through quality improvement (QI) projects and relevant participation in local and Trust wide care quality processes.
  7. Active involvement in teaching of undergraduate medical students.
  8. Supervising the clinical work of the trainee and multidisciplinary colleagues.
  9. Liaison with HTT, Psychiatric Liaison Services, AMHP services and Forensic Services in and outside the borough.
  10. Provide support to staff in the different applications of Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.

  12. Accurate record keeping according to the Trusts and professional guidelines.
