ACTS Senior Family & Systemic Psychotherapist - could this be you?
CNWL's Adolescent Community Treatment Service (ACTS) provides intensive community assessment and evidence-based treatment interventions to young people aged 13-18 with serious mental health needs in Brent, Harrow, Hillingdon, Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster who would otherwise be admitted to a psychiatric General Adolescent Unit.
We went live in July 2019 and from our first day have made an impact - reducing admissions to GAU in 2019/ 2020 by over 40% . In recognition for a successful first year, ACTS received the RCPsych Award 2020 for Psychiatric Team of the Year: Children and Adolescents.

The ACTS team works Monday through Friday, 9 am - 5 pm.
The team base is at Monks Park Health Centre, HA9 6JE - with good public transport links, allocated parking for the team hybrid car plus plenty of free on-street parking.
Main duties of the job
The responsibilities of this role are diverse and there are multiple levels to the work including:
- Direct work with young people and their carers/ families
- Liaison and consultation work with a wide variety of stakeholders including inpatient units and commissioners
- Teaching and training,
- Providing clinical supervision,
- Working strategically with senior leads within the team and Trust to to improve the parity of offer to young people referred to Tier 4 pathway.
- Contribute to innovation and further development of the discipline in ACTS and the Tier 4 pathway.
This role will occupy a senior position in the team with opportunities to develop management and leadership skills.

- To lead and help shape the Family & Systemic Psychotherapy provision within the ACTS team in collaboration with the team and service leads.
- To provide highly specialist assessment and treatment for young people with serious mental health needs that may present a significant risk to themselves and /or others.
- To provide care coordination for up to four young people. All clinicians in the team care coordinate including psychiatrists. This post has a capped caseload given other responsibilities.
- To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of young people whose problems are managed by care plans.
- To work closely with Family & Systemic Psychotherapy colleagues in the Trust to develop opportunities for family therapy training within the pathway.
- In liaison with colleagues and in response to an identified need, to provide specialist systemic psychotherapy with clinical autonomy drawing on a range of models and wherever possible brief intervention
- To practice in a way which is inclusive and considerate of the needs of each individual in the system including family members and their varying developmental stages and current emotional stage.
- To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options considering both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical, environmental and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
- To provide supervision to any qualified family and systemic psychotherapist(s) at Band 7 within ACTS, to family therapy trainee(s), to provide targeted intervention supervision to non-family therapy trained colleagues.
- To lead on ensuring consistent monitoring and measuring of quality and effectiveness of family interventions offered in ACTS and demonstrating this to stakeholders.
- To working flexibly within therapeutic frameworks drawing on a range of different evidence based systemic models including ABFT, NVR, FFT, MST, narrative, and third wave to provide individualised treatment packages for a young person and their family / carers.
- To provide specialist mental health advice guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to a young persons formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.
