Job summary
The Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) integrated care system developed a confidential wellbeing and psychological support service in 2021 which is open to all health and social care staff in the BLMK area. The service is known as Keeping Well and has the following aims:
- Deliver proactive outreach and engagement across BLMK
- Build capacity in local employer organisations or teams via training
- Provide rapid clinical assessment
- Provide onwards referral and care co-ordination to deliver rapid access to mental health services and support
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated individual to be part of a dynamic team who want to make a difference. Main duties of the job
The Keeping Well BLMK Team, is a psychology led, multidisciplinary team working in partnership with local mental health services and appropriate third sector organisations. Your role will be to assist the Clinical Lead build and facilitate psychological and wellbeing support to keyworkers in the BLMK area by:
- Providing highly specialist psychological assessments and delivering targeted, evidenced based intervention, where appropriate to clients referred to the service.
- Providing psychology-informed consultation and specialist advice to non-psychologist colleagues and other, non-professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures
- Providing clinical supervision to psychological therapists in the team.
- Providing operational and line management across the Keeping Well BLMK team, as delegated by the Clinical Lead.
- Utilising research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the Keeping Well BLMK team.
- Developing and delivering a proactive programme of outreach and engagement with providers of health and care services within the BLMK area, as delegated by the Clinical Lead.
- Developing and delivering training programmes (in partnership with local employer organisations and teams) to maintain and support staff wellbeing, as delegated by the Clinical Lead.
- Identifying and addressing gaps in service provision in the locality.
About us
The Keeping Well Programme Board has four clearly defined priorities:
- Deliver proactive outreach and engagement: Building on existing relationships with providers in BLMK we will ensure that the Primary Care Networks (PCNs), Occupational Health (OH) and Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs) are closely involved with the development and running of the service. We will utilise a range of social media platforms to spread awareness of the service to the health and social care workforce.
- Build capacity in local employer organisations or teams via training: The hub will work closely with local employer organisations to develop and collate together a comprehensive training programme via the 'Keeping Well Academy', which will be dedicated to providing the most recent research and guidance as well as practical strategies to maintain and support staff wellbeing. We are committed to sharing these teaching resources with NHS staff across our region and nationally.
- Provide rapid clinical assessment: Referrals to the service will be scheduled for a rapid clinical assessment with one of the multi-disciplinary team members.
- Provide onwards referral and care co-ordination to deliver rapid access to mental health services and support: Staff working in the hub will have a comprehensive knowledge of local, regional and national services to enable a holistic assessment process.

- To provide specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the Keeping Well BLMK based upon the appropriate use of interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources.
- To adapt assessments and interventions to meet the needs of the clients from a range of ethnic and cultural groups and facilitate access to translations and other means of communication across language and cultural barriers, where required.
- To work clinically with translators, where appropriate.
- To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and advise other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
- To generate formulations and intervene using different theoretical frameworks, as appropriate.
- To implement plans for formal psychological treatment and/or management of clients mental health difficulties, which are based upon an appropriate conceptual framework, employing methods grounded upon evidence of efficacy.
- To discriminate between treatment alternatives and recommend appropriate treatment programmes, taking into account short-term and longer-term difficulties.
- To work with a range of presenting problems, including complex, chronic and co-morbid psychiatric disorders, as well as clients who are at current risk of suicide or self-harm.
- To act as care coordinator, where appropriate, taking responsibility for initiating planning and review of care plans, referring agents and others involved in the network of care.
- To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients of Keeping Well BLMK.
