We are looking to recruit Band 6 Forensic Mental Health Nurse to work within the Multi-Disciplinary Integrated Mental Health Team at HMP Woodhill, Milton Keynes. You will have a key role in focusing on The Close Supervision Centres (CSC's) provide custody and care for some of the most difficult to manager prisoners within the high security prison estate. The unit within HMP Woodhill serves as the main assessment unit for prisoners referred to the CSC.
You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team; and be involved in assessing the mental health needs of prisoners, provide appropriate interventions and facilitate referrals; giving you the opportunity to work within the diverse fields of primary, secondary and forensic mental health.
You will be expected to work autonomously as well as part of the wider mental health team, to a standard equitable to that found within the community. managing a caseload and responding to emergency referrals. Working alongside the Primary Care team affords us the benefit of being able to work in a truly holistic manner, responding to the needs of both physical and mental well-being in partnership.
Main duties of the job
The Close Supervision Centres (CSC's) provide custody and care for some of the most difficult to manager prisoners within the high security prison estate. The unit within HMP Woodhill serves as the main assessment unit for prisoners referred to the CSC.
This post requires the applicant to have sufficient clinical knowledge and experience of working with often severely personality disordered individuals within a forensic setting to assess the mental health and risk needs of prisoners within this unit, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care and risk management plans and make recommendations regarding progression and potential care pathways.
As part of a national resource, the role may require the post holder to work away from base and will require excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate dialogue with prisoners, their clinical teams and other agencies. There is also an expectation that the post holder participate in the training and education of others with regard to the mental health and risk management needs of this group of prisoners.
