Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at HMP Woodhill, Milton Keynes. We are currently looking to recruit either a clinical, counselling or forensic psychologist for a band 7 or 8A post within the prison mental health team. The role will require you to provide one to one and group interventions to men who are serving their sentence in the prison.

You will be a compassionate and energetic psychologist with experience of working with complex needs and a real passion for providing support to some of the most vulnerable in society. We want to see someone who will work well with a range of professions, both within the established MDT and also with the wider prison staff, respecting and integrating a range of opinions and approaches to provide the best outcome for the men. A clinical interest in trauma informed approaches is important for this role.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a commitment to the provision of excellent clinical practice within secure environments. They will have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work with a wide range of stakeholders.

You will join the Mental Health team in providing evidence based and high quality care to patients. You will be a part of the wider Healthcare Team at HMP Woodhill. You will also join the Offender Care team consisting of a team of multi professional clinicians and managers.

You will be well supported with supervision, reflective practice and ongoing training and development.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a commitment to the provision of excellent clinical practice within secure environments. They will have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work with a wide range of stakeholders. Experience working in partnership and a clear understanding of the challenges of working in prison healthcare are both essential.

Essential

  • oA good honours degree in Psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS).
  • oDoctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, equivalent to that accredited by the BPS.
  • oEvidence of post-qualification specialist training, experience and developing expertise in a specialist area of clinical practice.
  • oHCPC Registered

Desirable

  • oPre- or Post-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.

  • oDemonstrate further specialist training / experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a specialist clinical psychologist or an alternative agreed by the Chief Psychologist
