Job summary

During this time of exciting transformation, a fantastic opportunity has arisen for you to join our fantastic team at the recently refurbishedKingswood Centre. We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic RMN or RNLD to provide an inpatient, community based service to adults with a learning disability who also have mental health problems and/or challenging needs. You will be joining an AIMS accredited(Accreditationfor Inpatient Mental Health Services) team that is committed to working at the highest standards of clinical practice and who seek to continually improve on this through engaging in regular Quality Improvement projects.

Main duties of the job

Working as a member of our LD-dedicated multidisciplinary team you will contribute to the care planning and risk management of our service users who may be detained under the Mental Health Act and work intensively with them and their carers, relatives and day service providers.

You would be joining us at an incredibly exciting time as our Learning Disability Services goes through a transformation process aimed at further developing our services and work force. The LD service will soon be implementing LD Nurse Consultants within the teams and together with our extensive training opportunities for our Nursing staff we believe this demonstrates are ongoing commitment to developing our LD staff.

  • Both newly qualified and experienced RMN/RNLDs whohave experience working with people who have learning disabilities, mental illnesses and challenging behaviour.

Summary of duties and Clinical Responsibilities:

  1. To act as named nurse/care co-ordinator to appointed service users
  2. To delegate and monitor support workers tasks undertaken at your direction.
  3. To ensure that support workers receive skill training from both yourself and other agencies, which are commensurate with both the grade at which they operate and the work expected of them
  4. To ensure that the care plans reflect accurately the direction given by the clinical team.
  5. To be able to give account of the effectiveness of care plans at clinical and multi disciplinary team meetings.
  6. To ensure that the Mental Health Act is administered accurately in respect of detained patients. This includes arranging MHA83 Section 117/CPA meetings as required.
  7. To be responsible for own professional clinical management updating needs and advising unit manager accordingly.
  8. To always act within NMC guidelines and regulations and, in doing so, to advise the manager(s) of situations/practices which could be in breach of the same.
  9. To ensure that both the NMC guidelines and local procedures in respect of drugs and other substances which may be noxious or harmful to health are adhered to.
