Job summary

Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust is a Top Employer Award Winner. We have a Health and Justice Directorate, within which sits the 'Children and Young People' Service line working in partnership with 'Youth Custody' colleagues to provide responsive and dependable primary care, mental health, neuro-developmental and substance misuse services to the young people within our services.

At HMYOI Cookham Wood we care for 15-18 year old boys in custody; if you are passionate about working with adolescents then this post is for you.

We are looking for a Mental Health Nurse (we would also consider applications from Learning Disability Nurses who have experience of working within CAMHS) to join our new Integrated health and emotional wellbeing team within HMYOI Cookham Wood. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to be part of this innovative trauma-informed model and also an opportunity to use your clinical and interpersonal skills, develop new skills through supervision and training and work with a unique population group. If you have a background of working in CAMHS or with adolescents in other settings then this is an exciting role; working with some of the most vulnerable and complex young people alongside an incredibly dedicated and experienced multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The role requires excellent interpersonal skills, an ability to be persistent in the face of significant challenge and to be able to hold the needs of complex young people within an equally complex system. If you enjoy direct and individual work, but also working with the team around a young person then this role, as part of our trauma informed service, could be the one for you. You will have the opportunity to work within evidence based frameworks and models to contribute to assessment, intervention and therapeutic care of young people with a wide range of mental health, emotional and neuro-developmental difficulties.

It takes a very special, dedicated, resilient and caring clinician to provide care in such an ever changing, dynamic environment and you will be joining like-minded exceptional healthcare professionals. Working within an integrated team affords us the benefit of being able to work in a truly holistic manner, responding to both the physical and mental well-being needs of our young people.
