Job summary
Are you an experienced Mammographer ready to take the next step in your career? We are looking for an inspiring and highly skilled professional to lead our dedicated breast imaging team.
The Lead Mammographer will play a pivotal operational role in the delivery of high-quality breast imaging services, providing advanced clinical expertise and leadership in the delivery of high-quality breast services across both screening and symptomatic pathways. This postholder will be responsible for the daily coordination and supervision of breast services, ensuring compliance with national standards (e.g., NHSBSP) and local protocols, working closely with the multi-disciplinary team to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centred care.
Main duties of the job
The role encompasses both clinical and leadership responsibilities, including supervising and supporting radiographer staff, contributing to service development, staff training and appraisal, implementing quality assurance measures, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of best practice and technological advances.
The Lead Mammographer will be responsible for ensuring efficient workflow, maintaining high image quality, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement, professional development and excellence in patient care.
In the absence of the Head of Breast Screening, the Lead Mammographer will act up to provide operational leadership and continuity of service. This includes supporting decision-making, representing the team at meetings, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the breast imaging service.
The post holder will take account of technical innovation, advances in imaging equipment and techniques, recruitment programmes, role extension and skill mix. They will manage change to ensure the imaging services provided remain at the forefront of staff utilisation and imaging modalities.
