Job summary
We are looking for an Oncology Research Nurse to join our team based at Furness General Hospital.
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Oncology research delivery team as a research nurse to support a wide range of studies from observational studies through to phase 3 or 4 clinical trials.
The role will suit somebody who has nursing experience with our patient groups and is interested in working on Oncology studies.
This job is being offered as a full-time (37.5 hours per week) position, however, job-sharing or flexible working could be considered for the right applicant(s). We would also welcome applications for this post as a secondment, provided that your current line-manager has agreed to facilitate this.
On successful appointment, there is a tailored induction and training program.
The post holder may be expected to work cross bay as needed.
Main duties of the job
- Study Coordination of suitable studies.
- Delivery of investigative medicines.
- Working closely with the team to deliver the wider portfolio of studies.
- You will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients and carers participating in clinical studies focused mainly in Oncology, but may be required to assist with other specialities if required.
- Recruitment, education and monitoring of research participants and the collection and documentation of accurate data including collection and management of tissue and/or samples.
- Supporting a wide range of research clinics.
- Processing lab samples.
- Conducting assessments as per the study protocol.
- Collecting physical assessments.
- Supervising and supporting junior staff.
About us
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
