Job summary

As a Senior Clinical Fellow, you will be working independently after a short department induction process. This is not a supernumerary post.

You will be experienced in delivering emergency medical care from first assessment, selecting appropriate diagnostics based on your primary assessment and following through to treatment or referral to specialties in line with recognised RCEM and Trust guidance and policy.

This role forms part of a 24hour, 265 day service and working a full rota, including nights and weekends is essential.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible, as part of the Emergency Department team, for all aspects of care for patients from reception, resuscitation, diagnosis and emergency treatment of patients attending the ED.

To supervise the appropriate referral of patients to non-ED specialist teams (within the Trust or tertiary referral where necessary), and to General Practice and other community-based services.

To ensure, with ED Senior colleagues, that the ED provides an effective service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week within national and local standards. This means that working to an agreed rota which covers nights, weekends and bank/ public holidays is required.

The appointment will be for 40-hours (full time). Holidays are agreed within the team as per the departmental holiday rules and must be applied for at least 6-weeks in advance in line with Trust policy.

There will be an element of training time built into the rota to enable the post holder to undertake mandatory training, participate in audits and ensure that they maintain their clinical competency for registration purposes via CPD etc. This will be an average of 6 hours per week, across the year, excluding Annual Leave periods. This time is expected to be worked on site/ in the department.

It is also envisaged that the post holder may undertake occasional ad hoc duties which will be paid separately.
