Job summary

Please note, although this role is being advertised by University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, it will transfer to OneLSC a Corporate Collaboration hosted by East Lancashire Hospitals Trust on 1.11.24. There are no plans to change the location of the role. The Estates department at Furness General Hospital is a group of highly skilled electrical, mechanical, and plumbing engineers, creative building craftpersons, and dedicated support staff. We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Engineering Manager - Mechanical to join us. You should be experienced, time served, and suitably qualified in mechanical engineering maintenance, fault finding, and repairs. Ideally you will have trained to NVQ Level 4/HNC level or above. You should be proficient in all aspects of mechanical plant and equipment on an industrial scale. Healthcare experience would be advantageous but not essential - as full training will be given. Flexible working and the ability to participate in an on-call rota is required.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for the mechanical infrastructure at Furness General Hospital and Millom Hospital. This includes taking on the role of Lead Mechanical AP (Authorised Person), Lead Ventilation AP, Lead Water Safety AP, and managing a team of deputy AP's. The role involves managing internal and external labour ensuring their compliance with HTM and H&S regulations. To manage all mechanical aspects of property maintenance for trust properties and other organisation's properties on behalf of the Trust. To supervise and carry out line manager duties for Estates Officers. To participate in the training of junior management staff to ensure they receive work experience, upskilling, and competency based task training. To efficiently manage a departmental budget and labour management system for your discipline and deputise for other Estates managers as required. To assist, and deputise for, the Estates Manager as required. To carry out Estates surveys, Estates returns, manage minor project and capital works, and assist in the monitoring of energy usage. You should be fully IT literate, an excellent communicator, verbally and in the written word, and be able to identify, manage, and communicate risk to senior management including members of the trust board.

About us

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
