Job summary

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS foundation Trust is dedicated to providing the best possible services to our patients, service users and local communities. We are seeking dynamic and dedicated individual for the pivotal role of Director of Governance and Assurance to join our leadership team and help us achieve our strategic objectives.

This newly created Director of Governance and Assurance role will have strategic leadership responsibility for both corporate and clinical governance, risk management, and assurance portfolio as we embark on enhancing our quality and safety frameworks.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive and working closely with the Chief Nursing Officer, you'll be a key member of the senior leadership team, providing expert guidance on regulatory requirements, driving improvements in clinical governance, and fostering a culture of quality, and safety

We are seeking an exceptional leader with extensive experience in governance, and assurance within the NHS or a similarly complex environment. It Requires a deep understanding of the regulatory landscape, outstanding analytical & problem-solving skills, and the ability to engage and influence at all levels. Commitment to upholding the highest standards of care and ensuring rigorous compliance and accountability are essential qualities for this role.

Main duties of the job

The Director of Governance and Assurance will be an experienced, visible, inclusive and collaborative clinical leader, ensuring delivery of the Trust's vision to provide the highest possible standards of compassionate care; the very best patient and colleague experience; and to listen to and involve patients, employees and carers.

The post holder will play a key coordination role within the Trust. They will be expected to use their initiative to identify opportunities to anticipate, support and streamline the work of the Boards and their Committees.

They will be expected to use their initiative to identify opportunities to enhance well-led at board level, across clinical governance, and within care groups, including leadership, risk, and the NHS CQC well-led domaons.

They will manage the interface between the management and governance arrangements of the Trust and take every opportunity to ensure a high standard of reporting and debate. As a key member of the Trust's Senior Leadership Team; the postholder will champion achievement of our strategic vision, leading in line with our values. They will report directly to the Chief Executive as a non-voting director.

About us

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications

Essential

  • Master's degree (or equivalent postgraduate level ability and experience)
  • Appropriate professional and leadership qualification
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development, including leadership development
  • Project management qualification or relevant experience
  • Registered Nurse, Midwife or Allied Health Professional with a current registration of relevant professional body.

Desirable

  • Post management/leadership qualification or willingness to undertake a post graduate certificate in management/leadership in an infection control setting
