Job summary
Applications are welcomed for a highly motivated Consultant Anaesthetist/ Intensivist post based at Morecambe Bay Hospitals. The hospital is a trust of 5 site bases with intensive care departments on 2 of its larger sites and theatres on 3 of the 5 sites. You will predominantly be based at the Furness General Hospital covering the Intensive Care Unit. You will join a department of 8 Consultants with several Specialists, Specialty Doctors and ACCP's. Depending upon your clinical skills the successful candidate could have the opportunity to work in main theatres covering maternity, gynecology, orthopedic and trauma, ophthalmology and ENT while also attending our Westmorland General Hospital that focuses primarily on Elective Surgery.

Main duties of the job

You will participate in a 1:8 Consultant of the week model, including prospective cover.

You will join a team of 8 Consultants with several Specialists and Specialty Doctors supporting all general services of the hospital including a busy Accident and Emergency department, Theatres covering maternity, Gynaecology, Orthopaedic and trauma, ophthalmology and ENT.

On-call shifts provide non-residential cover of emergency ITU, supervising a dedicated resident anaesthetist.

Lead Assessments of the deteriorating patient for emergency admission to the Intensive Care Unit.

Lead the team in managing pre and post operative theatre admissions.

Participate in clinical audit, governance and quality improvement.

Demonstrate evidence-based practice where appropriate.

Undertake and participate in the appraisal process and job planning.

Satisfy the criteria for revalidation.

Contribute to service development in areas of special interest and expertise.
