Job summary

A vacancy for a full time Band 6, site specific Chaplaincy Team Leader has arisen at Westmorland General Hospital.

Alongside key pastoral skills; the ideal candidate will need to be able to demonstrate that they are: energetic, entrepreneurial, a committed team player and have excellent communication skills. This post will have a strong focus on building community links with faith and third sector groups. It includes a dedicated focus on mental health and is partly funded by Lancashire and South Cumbria Foundation Trust. Experience in mental health care provision and an awareness of issues surrounding mental health would be an advantage but not essential as full training will be given.

Candidates will be required to demonstrate a sensitive awareness of the changing spiritual and culture landscape in which healthcare provision operates.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assist in the management of a Chaplaincy Department to serve the needs of patients, their relatives, visitors, and members of staff. Alongside a dedicated Mental Health element, the post will involve cultivating community links

They will be a resource of expertise for the Trust: in theological and ethical issues in health care; for advice on issues relating to faith (all faiths including Christian); a pastoral link between hospital and the community/groups the Hospital serves; a pastor to the Westmorland General Hospital community and hold basic financial responsibility.

Whilst the post holder will operate out of Westmorland General Hospital. they will be expected to spend a day a week at the Trust's largest site, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, in order to contribute to and gain a fuller experience of acute care.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
