The Occupational Health & Wellbeing service is SEQOHS (Safe, Effective, Quality, Occupational Health Service) accredited and is available for colleagues at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust (UHMBT), offering a full range of physical and psychological wellbeing support, advice and guidance.

Our service strives to create a healthier working environment for all. Our service is provided by a multidisciplinary team of highly qualified and experienced clinicians, including; Occupational Health Consultant, Occupational Health Nurses, and a Physical and a Psychological support team. Working with the administrative team as a service we aim to promote the maintenance and improvement of thephysical, psychological and social well-being of each worker in each occupation. The prevention of ill or damaged health to workers, caused by their role or work environment and the protection of workers in their work environment, from risks resulting in possible injury or adverse physical/mental health

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time experienced Occupational Health Nurse Specialist with post registration Occupational Health diploma/ degree to join the Occupational Health and Wellbeing service. The department provides service to approximately 8,900 employees across UHMBT and to external clients.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist in the Co-ordination of the provision of high quality care for UHMBT colleagues and other services users, ensuring that the service continually meets the needs of the our colleagues.
  • Ability to delegate, as directed by the manager/ matron
  • To provide comprehensive management referral reports, including returning to work plans with graduated timeline and facilitating rehabilitation as required
  • Act as a Occupational Health Nurse Specialist and provide support to the band 5 Occupational Health nurses.
  • To actively contribute to the achievement and maintenance of standards required for SEQOHS Accreditation
  • Support and assist in the delivery of our comprehensive immunisation and screening programmes, including seasonal Influenza and undertake venepuncture.
  • Ensure that the staff (including students, and junior members of the multidisciplinary clinical teams) are trained and educated in the appropriate skills to deliver competent and timely advise in relation to the projects contracted to deliver on.
  • Develop and maintain own competence in agreed appropriate/specific basic and advanced clinical skill in their designated
  • Ensure that the Occupational Health and Wellbeing Dept is able to provide effective care for colleagues with a variety of queries.
  • Give information and advice on health promotion with scope of competence.
  • Analyse and make decisions in relation to staff risk and care within the cope of the project contracted to carry out.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
