Job summary
- Maternity Support Worker Level 3 Apprenticeship
- Be UHMBT's first MSW apprentice in what is an exciting time of change and development within Maternity - learn on the job and gain a qualification at the same time.
- You will work alongside MSWs, Midwives, Obstetricians & Neonatal nurses to name a few.
- Access to the MSW career pathway with the opportunity to apply for a place on the Registered Midwifery Degree Apprenticeship.
- The successful candidate will provide a non judgemental approach to caring for our clients, supporting families who use our services to improve their health and wellbeing.

Pay related to this post will be:
(i) up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate;

(ii) more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate;

Main duties of the job
- This post is for various hours and will coverboth day, night shifts and all public holidays.
- You will receive structured appraisal, support, mentorship and training. You will work in support of and under the direction of a Registered Midwife (RM).
- Providing care and assistance to patients within defined parameters specified by the Registered Midwife. You will be required to provide basic patient care and document that care in the patient records.
- Learn and undertake clinical skills as required and directed by the Registered Midwife.
About us
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
