Job summary

The Associate Director of Elective Care (ADEC) is a key senior management and senior leadership position with the responsibility and accountability to manage, develop, direct and lead service improvement and performance strategies and policies to ensure delivery of high-quality, safe, efficient and effective patient care in Elective Care.Supporting the Chief Operating Officer (COO) in the effective and high-quality delivery of elective care across the Trust. This includes leading on specific elements within the COO's portfolio.

They are required to ensure that there are suitable programmes for developing and implementing performance management strategies, implementation of business development, planning and commercial development strategies which are consistent with the Trust's need for business efficiency, effectiveness, flexibility, value for money, high staff morale and improving patient care.

Main duties of the job

As ADEC you will:

  • Provide leadership and management of the Care Groups to support the effective delivery of Elective Care, ensuring the provision of appropriate patient centred services which meet the needs of patients, and provide appropriate support and development to staff within available resources;
  • work with, and provide assurance to, the COO on the quality, safety, efficiency and effectiveness of Elective services by ensuring comprehensive and robust systems for delivery;
  • support the development of a high performance and learning culture that facilitates partnership and multi professional working;
  • play a key leadership role in improving access to services by collaborating and developing services with multi-agency partner organisations across South Cumbria and North Lancashire, and with acute provider partners across the Provider Collaborative.

The ADEC has the authority to act on behalf of the COO. The ADEC will provide visible, professional and expert day to day leadership across the elective portfolio. ensuring patients, visitors and staff receive and provide services which meet the standards required by regulators.

The ADEC will act independently to provide crisis management, interpret policy and guidelines, make timely decisions that directly impact patient care, ensure timely and effective communication and collaboration among departments, and provide operational oversight across hospital services.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay

Our community services for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
