Job summary
The role of Patient Safety Ambassador will champion and be a pivotal role to influence patient safety, culture and quality improvement across UHMBT.
To identify and facilitate the removal of any barriers to safer care, better practice and a more open culture, ensuring new ways of working become embedded through dialogue and discussion.Communicate on a wide range of highly complex and potentially controversial issues arising from patient safety project and organisational change initiatives in the achievement of ambitious deadlines
The purpose of the role will be to support the trust to develop, implement, embed and drive improvements in the patient safety agenda in line with the national NHSE Patient Safety Strategy and the NHSE Patient Safety Incident Response Framework.
Main duties of the job
Planning and organisation of a broad range of complex activities and programmes.
Lead on the design and planning of a regular programme of 'patient safety events' at UHMBT
High quality presentation skills and ability to effectively communicate highly complex, sensitive, and contentious information to staff, patients, relatives/ carers.
Lead and Chair internal and external project groups, meetings and provide Patient Safety advice, expertise and support.
Lead and support on the development and operation of the Trusts 'Patient Safety Partners' framework.
A high level of analytical skills and the ability to draw qualitative and quantitative data from a wide range of sources
Support the Trust and service users by supporting the development and delivery of the Trust Patient Safety Incident Response Plan, investigation strategy and policy.
Measure, monitor, report and evaluate progress of relevant patient safety projects to ensure they are managed in line with the Trust Values, Standing Financial Instructions, project management processes, and in compliance with appropriate legislation, statutory approvals, and mandatory standards.
Utilise appropriate and often complex programmes and methodology to focus change and improvement initiatives on meeting the Patient Safety Strategy.
Supporting the trust in developing strategies to measure and continuously improve 'patient safety culture' across the organisation wider health economy.
About us
Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
