The services we provide: Children's Inpatient, Day Care, Assessment and Outpatients.

Our Children's outpatient department includes general and specialised paediatric clinics, blood clinics and allergy testing.

The children's ward admits children from 0-17 years of age from a broad range of specialities including paediatrics, surgery, Oncology and Orthopaedics in both emergency and elective situations.

The Paediatric assessment unit admits children and young people predominantly from general practice and the emergency department.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a role which will give you the unique opportunity to experience firstly outpatients and then inpatients work.

Initially until March 2024 you will be based in the Children's outpatients to cover the current post holder whilst they are on maternity leave. Upon their return, you will rotate to the children's ward where you have the opportunity to increase your knowledge and experience whilst developing new skills.

You will be reliable, flexible, motivated, have excellent clinical skills, a commitment to ongoing learning and development, a commitment to delivering high quality care, and be willing and open to embracing positive change and transformation in order to meet the demands of the community we serve.

You will care for children, young people and families who are attending the unit for investigations and treatment, ensuring the best possible outcomes for the child, young person, or family, maintaining a high standard of contemporaneous documentation.

You will work within the Nursing and Midwifery Code and adhere to local guidelines and policies, and complete training requirements.

You will work alongside the safeguarding team and follow local safeguarding policy.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
