Job summary

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Medical Examiners Officer (MEO)/Bereavement Nurse/Coroner's Officers to join our Bereavement Team and Medical Examiners on both sites, Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Furness General Hospital .This role will provide compassionate and sensitive care to the Bereaved and clinical support to the Medical Examiner.

Main duties of the job

Work in the Medical Examiners Offices at both sites FGH and RLI assisting the Medical Examiners. This role will provide compassionate and sensitive care to the Bereaved and clinical support to the Medical Examiner.

Post holder will be based at FGH with travel to RLI as required

About us

Anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff). This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.

  • Experience of working with people in sensitive and emotional situations
  • The ability to work in a highly pressurised unpredictable environment where bereavement care is central to the service delivery. Ability to work as part of a team and organise fluctuating workload around competing priorities
  • Computer literate to use multiple IT software for recording personal identifiable data and producing statistical information e.g. for the National Medical Examiner's office and Pubic Health surveillance.
  • Highly evolved empathetic and self-awareness skills to deal with bereaved families who may have barriers to their understanding of information due to their grief or disability.

Desirable

  • Completed the Royal College of Pathology mandatory Medical Examiner Officer on
  • Trained in the day-to-day operational management of a customer-facing service
