Pathology Specimen Reception and Transport Lead

Job summary

The Pathology departments at North Tees and Hartlepool (NTH) and South Tees Hospitals (STH) are working collaboratively to develop a joint service called Tees Valley Pathology, with pathology services being delivered on all hospital sites. This post will require cross-site working. An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Specimen Reception and Transport Lead to support the Pathology Support Services Manager, ensuring the development of a high quality pre-analytical service across pathology. The post holder will work together with the Pathology Support Service Manager, Lead BMS and Operational Leads, for the management and strategic development of the central specimen reception and logistics teams, supporting the pre-analytical service within pathology.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to liaise closely with senior staff to help support the pre-analytics and quality aspects of sample processing across Pathology from a staff, IT and technological perspective. They will have an in depth knowledge of pathology departments and be intrinsically involved in directing improvement and development within the service areas.

Using quality informatics, the post holder will provide solutions to support sample management across pathology, ensuring timely sample analysis and minimising adverse effects on the interpretation of patient results.

The post holder is expected to participate, as appropriate, in regional and national groups to develop guidelines and support development of Pathology provision across the wider NHS.
