Job summary

The posts are intended to provide additional experience in UGI and Colorectal general surgical specialities to enable experience.

Although not a recognised training post, there are considerable training and educational opportunities for the successful candidates. There is a comprehensive induction course and regular weekly teaching with the intention that the service commitment, supervision level and educational opportunities will be equivalent to that of our existing trainees.

This is a full-time post with basic hours of 40 hours per week with oncalls, but applicants wishing to work part-time are also encouraged to apply and rotas will be adjusted accordingly, and by negotiation with appointees.

Main duties of the job

The upper GI team carries out both benign and malignant upper GI surgery including bariatric surgery and routine general surgery. This includes theatre, out-patient clinics, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and MDT meetings

There is a 1 in 7 day time on call and a 1 in 12 night time on call which cross covers with ENT after midnight.

About us

South Tees was given trust status in 1992, incorporating three hospitals across Middlesbrough. It merged with the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton in April 2002, and now provides all secondary care to Middlesbrough, Langbaurgh and Hambleton & Richmondshire PCTs, a population of approximately 400,000. It also provides tertiary services to the wider Tees valley area, and parts of County Durham, North Yorkshire and Cumbria.
