Job summary
The Pathology departments at University Hospitals North Tees and Hartlepool (NTH) and South Tees Hospitals (STH) are working collaboratively to develop a joint service called Tees Valley Pathology (TVP) with services being delivered on all hospital sites.
1 x 37.5 hours and 1 x 18.75 hours
We are seeking applications from suitably qualified, enthusiastic individuals with appropriate experience, knowledge and skills to join our scientific team and participate in the delivery of services provided by Microbiology based at The James Cook University Hospital.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to be flexible in your approach to working hours but will cover mainly weekday shifts. The main duties are as follows:
1. Process samples according to SOP's, including blood cultures for BMS checking of Gram stains.
2. Prepare solutions and reagents as required following SOP's.
3. Assist with the cleaning and decontamination of laboratory equipment and benches.
4. Respond to telephone enquiries by undertaking retrieval of results from the Laboratory Computer System and to communicate authorised results to appropriate requesters in line with Departmental procedures.
5. To demonstrate working procedures and communicate own knowledge and understanding to others, e.g. the interpretation of Request Form details including recognition of medical terminology in the laboratory context and synonyms used for laboratory tests.
