Job summary
This is a unique role established to reflect the changing complex health needs of children in the area developed from an established Respire service based in Harrogate. The post holder will work closely with colleagues in the Harrogate & District Foundation Hospital Respire team.
This post is to work with children and young people with additional complex airway needs across Hambleton and Richmondshire locality. Specifically, children and young people with tracheostomy needs, to allow them equitable access to nursery, school and other settings I.E respite.
The post holder will support children and young people with complex airways predominantly in mainstream community settings across Hambleton and Richmondshire.
The post holder will work in partnership with the children and young person's designated CCN and medical team to design, plan and deliver relevant theory and competency-based skills training to parents, carers and/or statutory agents.
The Respire team deliver care in a range of community settings, I.E home, school, special schools, respite provision across the Harrogate and Rural Hambleton & Richmondshire footprint.
The postholder will take delegated responsibility for the management of own caseload, including liaison with other professionals and agencies and where appropriate, the supervision, deployment and teaching of staff and students.
The postholder will work closely with the Respire nurse in the Harrogate locality to share the training element of the caseload.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will complete audits, promote patient safety and high-quality care.
To be an active member of the multidisciplinary team by using professional judgement and assuming responsibility and accountability for assessing, implementing, and evaluating clinical care for patients to meet their needs in a safe caring environment that promotes dignity, privacy and respect.
The post holder will be expected to develop knowledge and skills within the speciality and will assist in the management and organisation of nursing duties across the Respire service within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. The post holder will support with the supervision of Staff nurses, health care assistants and support workers and support the training and assessment of student nurses. The CCN team work with the most complex children and young people in our community with the aim of limiting the impact of their complex health on their daily lives and preventing hospital admission. The post holder will work as part of the Community Children's Nursing Team contributing to the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based care to children and young people, their families and their carers.
