Job responsibilities

Applicants should possess full GMC registration, FRCOphth (or equivalent) and preferably be on the GMC Specialist Register. Formal fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery is an essential requirement.

The successful candidate will be appointed under the current terms and conditions of service for NHS Consultants. Full consideration will be given to applicants who wish to apply for a reduced/part time contract.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Training

Essential

• Full GMC registration
• FRCOphth or equivalent

Desirable

• Training in appraisal techniques
• Relevant CCT or equivalent ('equivalence' must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of AAC)
• Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register

Clinical Experience and Clinical Effectiveness

Essential

• Extensive experience in General Ophthalmology
• Subspecialist experience in vitreoretinal surgery
• Understanding of quality improvement activities such as audit
• Recognised subspecialty fellowship or good evidence of subspecialty practice in a recognized medical institution

Desirable

• Experience in complex uveitis

Teaching & Training Experiences

Essential

• Experience of supervising resident medical staff

Desirable

• Other teaching skills/experience
