An opportunity has arisen for dynamic leader who can evidence personal and organisational development to apply for the post of Critical Care Outreach Practitioner.

Applicants must have a 1st level degree as essential criteria and willingness to work towards master's degree. They will act as a clinical expert utilising well grounded academic skills to lead the service into the future, demonstrating advanced specialist skills and knowledge, whilst assuming professional responsibility and accountability in the assessment and treatment of patients in their care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder's will support and improve services for patients in ward areas who are at risk of deteriorating and may require admission to level 2 or 3 critical care areas. In addition to this discharge from Critical Care areas will be supported by the Critical Care Outreach team ensuring post ICU patients receive appropriate physical and psychological support in line with national guidance.

The applicant's must demonstrate exemplary interpersonal skills and have the ability to effectively communicate with all members of the multi-professional team. Their role will epitomise the promotion and facilitation of good practice to ensure the delivery of high standard quality patient care. There is an expectation that the Critical Care Outreach Practitioner will lead and advance practice in their speciality area whilst participating in clinical facilitation and education regarding the recognition and response to the 'at risk' or deteriorating patient. They will actively participate in audit in order to strategically inform future care delivery.

  • Registered professional healthcare qualification
  • First level degree
  • Masters degree or working towards
  • Physical assessment skills level 6/7 /CCOrC Course or appropriate Critical Care course
  • Commitment to undertake an intensive in-house course including competency assessment by Consultants in Intensive Care Medicine
  • Non- Medical Prescribing or working towards Non- Medical Prescribing within a pre-determined timescale
  • Advanced Life Support provider
  • Evidence of leadership in the specialist area
  • Commitment to undertake an intensive in-house course including competency assessment by Consultants in Intensive Care Medicine
  • Commitment to undertake Outreach Competency Programme/ bespoke course for the establishment of competence and confidence in the core skills to enable the delivery of Critical Care Outreach.
