Job summary

At University Hospital Tees we have high ambitions and as a Group we are committed to delivering more together for the populations we serve. This is an exciting and rare opportunity for an experienced, dynamic and high calibre individual to join us as our Group Chief Nurse who will provide strategic leadership within one of the largest Group models in the NHS.

The Group Chief Nurse post is a key member of our Trust Board, providing clinical and strategic leadership in the development of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professional standards. Working closely with our Group Chief Medical Officer, you will provide strong, visible and professional leadership and ensure that patient safety and the delivery of high-quality care remain central to our strategic direction and decision-making. You will be expected to work as part of an integrated team and take lead responsibility for strategic and corporate issues both within and external to your immediate portfolio, making a major contribution to the achievements of the Group vision and strategic goals.

Our Group will require focus on the development of a culture that will build alliances across any perceived organisational boundaries, creating a single set of values and behaviours that deliver improved patient care and staff experience. Our Group Chief Nurse will be pivotal in fostering that culture and articulating our vision, mission, values, and the behaviours needed for the Group to help us deliver our shared ambitions.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to speak with candidates who have significant and recent experience at executive level in a large, complex healthcare organisation or system. A highly visible and politically astute leader, you will have a demonstrable track record of improving quality and safety, leading and developing clinical strategy as well as the ability to build and maintain strategic relationships. Importantly, too, you will share our values and passion for the highest quality clinical care.

We strongly encourage applications from all sections of the community, particularly from under-represented groups, including disabled people and candidates from the global majority to improve the diversity of experience within our senior leadership team.

Please note that interviews will take place on 18th December 2024.

About us

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust and South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have worked together for many years to ensure the best care for local patients and this relationship was formalised earlier this year with the creation of the region's first hospital group.

While both trusts remain as separate organisations - keeping their own existing identities and names - going forward, when they are working together, they can now collectively be known as University Hospitals Tees.

Working as a group will deliver better outcomes for:

  • Patients- by ensuring equal access to treatment and sharing best practice on how to deliver care.
  • Staff- by enabling them to work on all of the group's sites more easily and develop career opportunities.
  • The wider population - by collaborating to work on endemic health issues and having a coherent voice to represent the people of the Tees Valley and parts of County Durham and North Yorkshire.
