Job summary
The Radiotherapy Physics section of the Department of Medical Physics, based at The James Cook University Hospital has a vacancy for a clinical technologist - mould room & brachytherapy. This is a 12 month fixed term post. The successful candidate will join a team of 12 physicists and 12 technologists working in radiotherapy physics.
The post holder will contribute to the delivery all aspects of mould room and brachytherapy support, working alongside another clinical technologist and the Chief Clinical Technologist. A full range of custom immobilisation and shielding devices are produced. Brachytherapy support includes QA, theatre work and treatment delivery, alongside management of the brachytherapy applicator library.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will possess a good knowledge of the radiotherapy process, an aptitude for intricate manual work and an appetite for both personal and service development.
Applicants should possess a degree in clinical technology, physics, therapy radiography or equivalent, and should have (or be eligible for) registration under a relevant professional body. Exceptional candidates at an earlier point in their career may be suitable for appointment at a lower band.
We have an active brachytherapy service, treating a variety of sites using our Nucletron remote after-loading brachytherapy unit.The department has six Elekta linacs (three Versa HD, three Synergy with Agility MLC - all equipped with FFF technology) and one superficial/deep X-ray set. Pre-treatment imaging consists of Siemens and Toshiba wide bore CT scanners with associated ProSoma virtual simulation software. Treatment plans are produced using Raystation and Monaco.
The department prides itself on delivering state-of the-art treatment techniques to our patient population and research and development is actively encouraged. For example, the use of 3D printing technology is under active investigation and we hope to introduce it into clinical use by the end of the year.
