Consultant Gynaecologist & Unit Cancer Lead

The James Cook University Hospital is seeking to appoint a Unit Cancer Lead Gynaecological Surgeon to join the friendly, dynamic and forward thinking Gynaecology team. The applicant must hold CCT or be within six months of completing training. The post attracts 10 PAs and the post holder will be expected to work across the two sites (JCUH in Middlesbrough and The Friarage Hospital in Northallerton). Specialist interest clinics are available by negotiation.

James Cook University Hospital is a tertiary centre for Gynaecological Oncology with close links to the regional Gynaecology Oncology Centre in Gateshead. In addition the hospital is the tertiary centre for providing Reproductive Gynaecology,complex Maternal and Fetal Care, it is a BSGE Accredited Endometriosis Centre, and has BSUG accreditation for Urogynaecology and will be applying for SST status for urogynaecology in 2024.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Proeleptive appointment to ensure a seamless transition within the 2ww service for the retiring unit cancer lead. The successful applicant will be expected to take up the post by December 1st 2024. The post will complement the gynaecology oncology team and to develop and maintain clinical and academic excellence. The appointed consultant is expected to provide direct clinical care for Gynaecological patients referred under the 2ww service from North Yorkshire, County Durham and Teesside. The area has a population in excess of 1.5 million. The post holder is expected to take an active role in the teaching programmes of the department.

James Cook Gynaecological Oncology Centre is one of a few centres in the United Kingdom whose surgical portfolio extends from state of the art robotic operations to advanced, extensive cytoreductive surgery and this will be complemented by the opening of a new 10 theatre Surgical Hub at the Friarage in 2025.
