Consultant Dermatologist
Applications are invited for the post of consultant dermatologist to work with an established team of seven consultants within the dermatology directorate. The appointee will have clinical responsibilities at The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough and University Hospital North Tees, Stockton-On-Tees. Applicants should be suitably qualified and experienced in Dermatology. The post is advertised on 10 sessions per week but consideration would be given to those wishing to work fewer sessions.
There will be opportunity to develop a subspecialty interest according to individual expertise.
The department of dermatology provides a hub and spoke service, with hub being The James Cook site at Middlesbrough and the spoke services being at University Hospital North Tees, University Hospital Hartlepool, The Friarage, Northallerton, and One Life Centre, Linthorpe road Middlesbrough.
There is a full range of outpatient services for patients both within the community service and secondary care service. This provides a range of inflammatory and malignant skin disorders and access to inpatient care.
The department serves a population of 720,000, covering the Tees Valley and the contiguous parts of South Durham and North Yorkshire.
Specialist services include; Paediatric dermatology, Geno-dermatoses clinics, joint vulval/gynaecology clinics, laser, patch testing, photodynamic therapy, and complex medical dermatology clinics.
Main duties of the job
Maintaining the highest clinical standards in the practice of dermatology.
Clinical / on-call responsibilities;
- Undertake responsibilities which relate to agreed special interests
- Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences
- Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff
- Be actively involved in the management of the department including attendance at monthly directorate and senior dermatologists' meetings.
- Take part in annual appraisals (mandatory for all consultants) and revalidation. Appropriate time and assistance will be provided for preparation.
- Active involvement in audit
- Involvement in research - the department is actively engaged in several CLRN research projects.
- The Trust supports requirements for continuing professional development as laid down by the Royal Colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.
- Support the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching commitments of the department
- Any other appropriate duties which may be required
Applicants should possess full GMC registration, MRCP (or equivalent). Relevant CCT or equivalent ('equivalence' must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of AAC). Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC.
Candidates with application for CCT via CESR awaiting outcome can apply although they should demonstrate a positive outcome for a substantive job offer.
