Job summary

To support the Specialist Weight Management Service (SWMS) multidisciplinary team (MDT) in providing effective management of patients in the service. To provide additional support, through face-to-face, group, and remote contact, to SWMS patients and clinicians working in the SWMS.

Main duties of the job

post will help with the efficient running of the SWMS. The successful applicant will be working directly with patients of the SWMS helping them to adopt healthy lifestyle changes, overcome any barriers to change, improve motivation, and follow advice given by the SWMS multi-disciplinary team (MDT). They will also be working with the SWMS administration team helping to support the smooth running of the service. The Senior MDT Support Worker act as a practical resource actively delivering components of the SWMS, including their own clinics, and participating in supervision of junior support workers.

Essential

  • Fluent in written and verbal English.
  • Good interpersonal and listening skills.
  • Excellent communicator, able to engage, inspire, and influence patients in one-to-one, remote working, and group working situations. Able to lead group sessions well.
  • Willing to undertake the necessary training to support lifestyle behaviour change of clients on caseload.
  • Knowledge of health care and NHS services.
  • Basic IT skills

Qualifications

Essential

  • Level 3 UK qualification in a health related subject, Or the equivalent experience - this must be demonstrable.
  • Willing to work towards completion of a level 5 UK qualification, or equivalent, such as a foundation degree.

Desirable

  • Attendance at foundation improvement training and the new and aspiring leaders program within first year of role.

Personal Attributes

Essential

  • Able to act as a supervisor of junior assistants in the team.
  • Excellent patient communication. Ability to interact effectively with people from a range of backgrounds.
  • Commitment to excellent patient care and the ability to show compassion towards patients who may report behaviours that carry social stigma or may be judged by the prevailing view of society, and to provide such patients with care equal to that of others in their care.
  • Determined and motivated to perform at a high level, identifying plans and opportunities to enhance performance.
  • Able to travel independently to base and around regions of Teesside, County Durham, and North Yorkshire.
