Job summary
Applicants are invited to apply for a full time ward clerk post on ward 24, Neurology and Stroke at The James Cook Hospital University Hospital.
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, confident person who can demonstrate excellent communication skills, havegood organisational skills and the ability to work usingtheir own initiative.
Main duties of the job
We require a friendly and approachable person with a professional manner and to be able to work well under pressure. Previous telephone and computer skills are required and excellent communication and organisational skills are essential, flexibility will be required as part of the role.
Working closely with the multi-disciplinary team, we are looking for someone who is a good team player. The role will involve direct contact with patients, relatives and other members of the public.
The successful candidate must be able to prioritise their workload on a busy acute ward. Reception duties are a large part of the role as well as handling public enquiries. Previous experience of working in a similar role in an NHS setting would be an advantage however full training will be given.

The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough is a designated major trauma centre and provides all its specialties from one site which is unique for a hospital of its size. It provides a wide range of district general hospital services and specialist services such as neurosciences, renal medicine, spinal injuries, major trauma, cardiothoracics, vascular surgery and cancer services. It has 1,024 beds, a 24-hour acute admissions unit and an emergency department which houses the major trauma centre for Durham, East Cleveland, Tees Valley and North Yorkshire and has its own helipad. In 2012 the Middlesbrough hospital completed a £35 million redevelopment of its cancer services and is now proud to provide some of the best facilities in Europe. The James Cook University Hospital has a modern, central operating suite containing 20 well-equipped theatres and a 16-bedded intensive care unit. There is also an Institute of Learning, Research and Innovation on site, embracing postgraduate medical education, undergraduate teaching centre, nurse training school, the school of radiography and library facilities.
