Job summary

This is an exciting new opportunity to work withtheCriticalCare MDT to support staff, patients and their families through their medical journey in Critical Care.The post holder will workwith the Medical Psychology Inpatient Team to provide a psychology service to the Critical Care Department within the South Tees Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.The Critical Care team have shown great enthusiasm for Psychology to be integrated withtheir MDT.It will involve working in an inpatient and outpatient setting and liaising with external agencies to support patients back into the community.

We are looking for a senior Clinical / Counselling Psychologist to take a lead role in the service. In addition to their clinical duties, the post holder will support the operational delivery and clinical governance of the service, andtake a lead in developing and growing the service. There are extensive national networks of psychologists working in critical care which the post holder can join.

The post holder will be part of the Medical Psychology Inpatient Team consisting of a lead Consultant anda number ofpsychology clinicians that provide services toa number ofdepartments including Spinal Cord Injuries, Major Trauma, Neurorehabilitation and Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery.The Inpatient Team have a supportive team context and work together to have a shared understanding of the multiple services andstandardisepractice across them where possible.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties

  • To provide a high-quality specialist medical psychology service

  • To provide a highlyspecialiseddirect clinical service to critically ill medical patients with complex psychological presentations in accordance with national clinical guidelines and the best available evidence-based practice

  • To ensure timely provision of a highlyspecialisedclinical service to NHS staff, in line with national clinical guidelines and recommendations

  • To provide a highly specialist indirect clinical service through consultation, supervision, teaching and training, for colleagues within the multi-disciplinary teams

  • To ensure the highest standards of professional governance and clinical governance within the medical psychology service

  • To provide highly specialist teaching for the Teesside Doctoral Psychology training courses and other training providers

  • To undertake appropriate research, audit and evaluation as a major job responsibility.
