Job summary
We are looking to appoint a trust employed dentist to cover a vacancy in our dental core training programme.
The post will be based at The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, providing an exciting opportunity to work within a committed team. The Consultant workforce, at JCUH, is supported by an Associate Specialist (POMFS), 2 Specialist Registrars in training, 3 full time Specialty Doctors, 4 part time Specialty Doctors and seven Dental Core Trainees. Also supporting the team is our Oral Surgery Consultant and our Restorative Dentistry Consultant.
The department has a fully functioning Maxillofacial laboratory which is equipped with up to date technology. The laboratory has intra & extra oral scanning facilities. It is equipped with 3D printers and 3D software for planning and image manipulation.
The James Cook University Hospital is a designated Major Trauma Centre and OMFS are part of the trauma MDT.
Main duties of the job
The OMFS Department at JCUH offers excellent experience for OMFS SHO level dentists including experiential learning "on the job", formal teaching and appraisal with feedback. The post would also be suitable for dentists applying to medical school, or dual qualified dentist/doctors aiming to apply for specialty training in OMFS.
There will be on-call commitment at 1 in 7 in a shift pattern. Other sessions will provide access to general and specialist OP clinics, dento-alveolar surgery under LA, LA&IV, DC/GA and elective and emergency surgery under GA
From a professional development point of view this is an excellent opportunity for a dentist to gain more experience in (but not limited to):
-Developing an understanding of oral surgery provision in primary and secondary care with reference to the surgical management of oral mucosal, salivary gland and oro-facial pain.
- Being able to make working diagnoses, undertake initial investigations and know when to refer.
- Having an understanding of the importance of medical history and co-morbidities in patient care.
- Developing their clinical, time-management and communication skills.
