Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the cardiac surgical team in the form of a training post for a cardiac specialist nurse practitioner. We are looking for an enthusiastic new team member, the post holder will work closely with the cardiac surgical team and as part of well established team of specialist nurses and surgical care practitioners in providing an advanced level of nursing care for the cardiothoracic surgical patients.
The post holder will be training to manage a patient caseload and/or client group within the speciality service from diagnosis throughout the treatment trajectory to discharge or death. They will train to determine clinical diagnosis and treatments indicated, and maintain records as a practitioner. The post holder will train to provide expert clinical expertise and support to other staff whilst improving clinical practice, enhancing service provision and streamlining patient focused care.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be trained to provide support, information and advice to patients, carers and other members of the multi-disciplinary team on all aspects of the service. The post holder will be expected to liaise with primary care and external agencies to enable and ensure a quality service provision for patient caseload and/or client group.
The post holder will network with Nurse Practitioners Colleagues/ Surgical Care Practitioners and Advanced Critical Care Practitioners for the purpose of developing practice, research and audit, development of standardised patient information and clinical supervision. They will ensure that evidence based practice is inherent in all aspects of care and treatment and ensure this knowledge is disseminated throughout the clinical area, Trust and externally as appropriated.
