Job summary
The Pathology departments at North Tees and Hartlepool (NTH) and South Tees Hospitals (STH) are working collaboratively to develop a joint service called Tees Valley Pathology with services being delivered on all hospital sites. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Coordinator (Biomedical Scientist) to join the Point of Care Testing team.
South Tees NHS Foundation Trust is comprised of two sites; The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough and the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton which are approximately 22 miles apart. North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust is also comprised of two sites; The University Hospitals of North Tees and Hartlepool which are approximately 15 miles apart. The candidate will be expected to work across both Trusts and sites, in addition to smaller units within the community and primary care (e.g. Redcar Primary Care Hospital).
Main duties of the job
The services manage approximately 400 pieces of equipment including a range of Radiometer ABL Blood Gas analysers, Abbott iStat Nova Stat Strip and X-Press Glucose meters, Roche Cobas b123 Blood Gas analysers, AccuChek Inform II Glucose meters, Coaguchek INR meters, V-Trust Ketone meters, Clinitek Urinalysis meters and Hemocue Hb meters.
The role requires the delivery of a safe and high quality POCT service, assisting with the procurement of equipment and delivering the service within budget whilst providing a more effective patient pathway. This includes providing training and support to a range of NHS staff and other customers and providing troubleshooting advice, repairing breakdowns, performing scheduled preventative maintenance and calibrating equipment in line with standard operating procedures and UKAS standards.
The post holder must be able to work autonomously, both as part of a small team and on their own, with excellent organisational, communication and management skills. An aptitude for problem solving is essential, as is a flexible attitude to work and willingness to adapt to changes in working practice.Please note this post will close at sufficient applicants
