The department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery here at South Tees Hospital is looking for a progressive and motivated Maxillofacial Prosthetist/Reconstructive Scientist who would like to develop their career and skills in a very busy regional unit.
We offer a full range of Maxillofacial prosthetics and Reconstructive scientist services which involve 3D and implant technology, so the post is challenging and rewarding.
The post requires an individual that is innovative, motivated, highly skilled and has excellent patient management skills, with the ability to communicate and teach within this multi disciplinary department.

Main duties of the job
- The post holders prime responsibility is to prescribe, design and provide bespoke maxillofacial prostheses, Intra Oral, extra oral, body and facial and oro-facial devices for cancer restorative and trauma services (including patients seeking treatment due to congenital malformations).
- To design manufacture and apply in clinic and the operating theatre, activate (where necessary) and maintain clinical review of custom made medical devices for patients with injuries, benign or malignant disease and deformities of the craniofacial region or body.
- This will include patient assessment, taking impressions or 3D scans and fitting the appliances constructed, taking into account the aesthetics, function and compatibility of components.
- The provision of clinical and technical information regarding the long term management of medical devices such as caring for the prostheses or Osseo integrated implants.
- They will also be required to liaise with consultant, nurses and other medical staff within the MDT meetings for cancer care treatment planning.
- The post holder will be required to be part of the on call rota for Accident and emergency for the production of rehabilative splints for facial injuries to the bone and dental anatomy.
You will be working with a range of departments within the hospital including OMFS, Orthodontics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Plastics, Neurology and Medical Physics who are all highly motivated to bring the best patient care in the best possible way.

The Friarage Hospital in Northallerton is an essential part of our organisation and an important point of delivery for the community. It is one of the smallest district general hospitals in the country and has 189 inpatient beds.
