Substantive Full time Consultant contract

Applications are invited for a full time post of Consultant in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery,at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.

This is a new post providing an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual to join the ENT team, currently comprising of ten consultants. The successful candidate will link into a progressive and enthusiastic multi-professional department based at The James Cook University Hospital which provides comprehensive ENT services to the population of Teesside, South Durham and North Yorkshire. The candidate will be encouraged to develop a special interest and to actively contribute to the departments teaching and training activities.

The unit comprises a fully established complete subspecialised Otorhinolaryngology service. This includes Head and Neck surgery, the sub-regional Head and Neck oncology centre, Paediatric ENT, Rhinology, Otology and skull-base. The department has a fully comprehensive implant service, offering cochlea, bone anchored and middle ear implants. Other specialist services in the department include adult voice, paediatric voice, airway and swallow, balance disorders, tertiary audiology and a complete head & neck dystonia service, offering botulinum toxin treatment.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will join the team of nine existing consultants on The James Cook University Hospital site with the aim of developing and maintaining a special interest, which will ideally include support to the H&N dystonia botulinum toxin service. The ENT Department provides a comprehensive high quality ENT service supported by a multi-professional team to the population of Teesside, South Durham and North Yorkshire.

The post holder will support the departments delivery of general ENT and non-elective care and contribute to providing outreach services. Essential to the post is a special interest, part of which will comprise of Head and Neck dystonia (botulinum, toxin treatment). The post holder will support the department

It will be expected that the post holder contributes to the departments very active teaching and training programme, at both post-graduate specialist registrar level and nurse specialist level, and will also contribute together with colleagues to the general management needs of the department.

The successful candidate will be appointed under the current terms and conditions of service for NHS Consultants. Full consideration will be given to applicants who wish to apply for a reduced/part time contract.

Applicants should possess full GMC registration, FRCS (or equivalent) and either already be on the Specialist Register or be within approximately 6 months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview.
