Developmental OT or Physiotherapist

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust

The closing date is 02 February 2025

Job summary

The CAT team consists of OT, Physio, RN and Discharge Practitioners based in the Emergency Department ( ED ) at Gloucester Royal Hospital ( GRH ). We are offering a Band 5 to Band 6 Developmental post for either an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist.

Do you thrive working in a fast paced, unpredictable and challenging environment? Are you dynamic, tenacious and driven? If the answer is Yes you could be an ideal fit.

The CAT team provides rapid identification and assessment of patients aged 18 years and above, who present to ED and whose admission can be avoided by using community pathways. Knowledge across an array of clinical conditions is essential, particularly MSK and fractures.

We work closely with the wider ED team, particularly medical staff. This is an excellent opportunity for a therapist who is looking to diversify, develop new skills and knowledge.

As a therapist we will support your learning interpreting blood results, NEWS and pharmacology to support admission avoidance. A knowledge of different community pathways is a must. We can offer you a mentor and a supernumerary period of induction to support your learning.

A good sense of humour is critical.

A discussion/visit before applying is highly recommended.

Main duties of the job

1: Be responsible for providing rapid therapy assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of high-quality holistic therapy patient care, within the Emergency Department to support same day discharge.

2: Assess any appropriate patient over 18 years of age who can be managed on a community pathway and acute admission avoided.

3: Utilise knowledge of NEWS, acute medicine, different community pathways to support same day discharge assessments.

About us

We have in excess of 5000 staff working over 50 sites, providing a diverse range of services. We strive to support an organisational culture that is welcoming, builds and celebrates inclusivity and diversity and provides a sense of belonging and trust.

The annual NHS Staff Survey gives our people the opportunity to tell us about their experience working at the Trust. For the 2023 survey just over 2800 colleagues gave us their views (58.5%). It was great to see from the results that colleagues are saying that:

  • 89.7% believe they are making a positive difference to patients/service users;
  • 73.3% would recommend the organisation as a place to work;
  • 82.4% agree that care of patients and service users is the organisations priority;
  • 76.7% would be happy with the standard of care for a friend or relative

Our results put us as 5th nationally as a Community, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities NHS Employer of Choice and 1st equal amongst all NHS Provider Trusts in the South West. However, we know we have more to do and will continue to drive forward our commitment to making GHC a Great Place to Work.
